Les Greeters ...made in Pas-de-Calais

‘"Greeters made in Pas-de-Calais" is an initiative of the Pas-de-Calais Tourist Board, based on a concept from New York ”the Big Apple Greeters”, who offer tourists the opportunity to meet with a local inhabitant who shows him around and speaks to him about “his” neighbourhood, “his” town, about which he is enthusiastic and proud. He does not in any way replace professional tourist guides and, for that reason, does not receive any income or tips.

For the visitor, the meeting with this “friend” is an enriching experience.

Whether with family, friends or individuals, the Greeter made in Pas-de-Calais welcomes you and guides you during your stay in Pas-de-Calais.

The ‘Greeters made in Pas-de-Calais’ service is completely free of charge.

An application for a meeting with a Greeter must be made at least 3 days before the desired date in order to allow our volunteers to organise themselves. For practical reasons, and in order to preserve the special and authentic character of this encounter, the Greeter is unable to receive more than 6 people at a time. Meeting applications depend on our Greeters’ availability, they may not always be possible with the person of your choice. The meeting between the visitor and the Greeter is only possible in a public area. Each must have a personal vehicle for travel between sites.

Click here to discover the portraits of our Greeters by theme and their geographic location and complete the online contact form. We will be in touch to set up a rendez-vous.

What you need to know before meeting a Greeter:

  • A Greeter is not a professional guide but more a sort of “friend” who shows you around “his” neighbourhood and recounts its stories and legends.
  • The Greeter takes the visitor on a tour of sites off the beaten track and guides the visitor during his stay in Pas-de-Calais (tourist office, tourist sites, restaurants, etc.)
  • He does not have a pre-prepared tour, but works according to the interests of those with him.
  • The meeting with the Greeter local resident may last from 2 to 4 hours.
  • Greeters are able to adapt to meet the needs of people with disabilities.
